PHELAN, CA. – A 42-year-old Phelan man was arrested for allegedly committing a sex crime against a child.
Authorities became aware of the sexual abuse on Monday, April 20, 2020 when the victim was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment. Through investigation, Stephen Rowell Leslie II was identified as the suspect. As a result, a deputy responded to his home in the 3000 block of Olivera Road in the City of Phelan.
When Leslie saw the deputy he got into a vehicle and fled leading the deputy on a 2-3 mile pursuit. Near Smoke Tree Road near Johnson Road, Leslie lost control of his vehicle causing it to become disabled. The deputy was checking to see if Leslie was injured when Leslie assaulted him. He was arrested but went to the hospital for treatment before he could be booked into jail.
