PHELAN, Ca. – The store owner of SoCali Closet, in Phelan is asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect caught on camera stealing costly vintage sunglasses.
The theft occurred on December 11, 2020, at around 3:30 p.m. at the Classic Antiques store, where SoCali Closet is located in the 4700 block of Phelan Road. The male suspect walked into the store and walked over to the display case where a rare set of Versace Medallion sunglasses were kept. He popped the lock of the display case to gain access to the sunglasses.
Shortly after concealing the sunglasses on his person, a store employee walked into the store, apparently startling the suspect. He engaged in small talk with the employee, including a mention of the difficult year, and eventually asked her to hold a couple of items until the next day. She said that she would and he left.
The value of the sunglasses, depending on the condition, ranges from around $125 – $250, meaning if the suspect is identified he may face Petty Theft/Shoplifting charges. The store owners still would like to see the suspect caught so it can possibly change his ways, saving another small business the loss due to theft.
If anyone has information about the identity of the suspect they should call the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Phelan Substation at (760) 995-8781.
