COPPERAS COVE, Tx. – A Texas mother left her baby in an unlocked running Buick while she went to a nightclub.
On Sunday, July 28, 2019, a witness noticed the 1-year-old child inside the running vehicle at 1:45 a.m. at the nightclub located at 301 Joe’s Road. The witness called to report the finding to authorities. Police responded to the scene and found the baby, Riley Jo Vaughan sleeping in the backseat of the unlocked silver 2009 Buick Limited in car seat.
The police entered the Trackside Nightclub and made contact with the mother, 26-year-old Samantha Grace Vaughan who was inside with her husband, according to court documents.
Officers from the Copperas Cove Police Department questioned Vaughan, who gave a couple of different accounts as to why her baby was left alone in the vehicle. She told police that she only had went inside to “pee” but later said she went to pick her husband up. As she talked to officers, they reported smelling alcohol on her breath. When asked about the smell, she admitted to having two shots while inside. Police determined by the use of a breathalyzer test, that her BAC was nearly 0.15.
Police placed her under arrest and placed handcuffs on her as she screamed out racial slurs and cursed. “You will not take my child and place her with a f***ing n***er,” she said, according to the affidavit. Vaughan continued throwing her body to the ground and when placed in the patrol vehicle she banged her head around inside. According to the court documents, while in the vehicle she yelled,”I hope someone slits your god d**n jugular and a n****r f***s your children in the a**. Crash this car and kill us both. I hope your children f***ing die. I hope someone f***s your children in their a** and makes them choke on n****r d**ks.”
Vaughan was booked into jail for child endangerment, resisting arrest, and making terrorist threats against the police officers.
