REDDING, Calif. – A Redding man was arrested after intentionally hitting a black man with his vehicle while screaming racial slurs officials said.
On Sunday, March 10, 2019, at around 11:00 a.m., Redding police responded to Saginaw Street for the report of an altercation. When they arrived they learned that the victim was sitting in his vehicle when 23-year-old Zackary Miller hit the side mirror of his vehicle. The victim confronted Miller for hitting the parked vehicle. The victim took a picture of the vehicle’s license plate as it sat near a blue Pontiac.
According to the news release, the occupants of the vehicle that hit the victim’s vehicle and in the blue Pontiac yelled racial slurs and said that he was just trying to get money from them. Miller reversed and struck the victim, who fell to the ground, breaking his cell phone. The suspect vehicle then fled southbound on C Street. Those in the Pontiac called the victim racial names and backed up quickly, also striking the victim with their vehicle before fleeing the scene.
Miller, who was out on Post Release Community Supervision for possession of a concealed dagger. He also had two active felony warrants for his arrest. Police learned that Miller was staying in a home known for criminal activity. Police showed up at the home later that day to conduct a probation search.

Several other bags were also found inside the house. Miller was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, a hate crime enhancement and possession of illegal drugs for sale. Four others were arrested for arrest warrants.
