VICTORVILLE – Homeless and otherwise disadvantaged women rarely get a day for themselves, a day to be pampered where they can momentarily leave behind their struggles. One nonprofit organization started by Tiana Nicole Norman gave these women just that with a beautiful event fit for a queen.
Norman shared that she had her share of difficulties through her childhood and into her young adult life. She faced many of the same obstacles that the woman she now serves face. The hardship along with the triumphs pushed Norman into her calling to start the Reign Foundation. The Reign Foundation is a faith-based, self-care nonprofit that provides transitional assistance, personal development and most importantly, mentoring to females and families facing hardships.
On Saturday, April 29, 2017, the Reign Foundation hosted its Official Launch called “Crowned in the City” at the Spring Valley Lake Country Club. Approximately 30 women and girls attended the event, including those from High Desert Homeless Services and others referred by A C.O.R.E. Solution; both in the City of Victorville. The day of health, beauty, fitness, fashion, faith, and encouragement began at around 5:00 p.m. The women and girls from High Desert Homeless Services (HDHS) were transported by a Victor Valley Transit Bus sent especially for them. The women arrived and were whisked away into a room full of makeup artists and hair stylists from Victor Valley Beauty College.
When complete, the dolled up women were able to take photos in a photobooth provided by MDS Photobooth. Next, the women went into the intricately decorated dining area for a delicious salad, dinner, drinks, and desserts. Music was played and charity and community organization and business leaders spoke encouraging words in hopes of uplifting, empowering, and encouraging the women in attendance. Women returned to the bathroom mirror several times during the beautiful evening and night one, who is a client at HDHS saying, “I have never felt so beautiful in my life.”
