RIVERSIDE – The City of Riverside Fire Department responded to the report of a fire on the 1600 block of Palmyrita Avenue Wednesday afternoon. The reporting party called in the report at around 4:30 p.m., stating that the basement of the single-story home was on fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene shortly after to light smoke showing from the home and the back porch water heater closet on fire, officials said. The fire extended into the wall of the home, but the fire was extinguished within approximately 5 minutes of arrival.
The estimated loss of property was $2,000, meaning firefighters were able to save the majority of the home with the saved portion being, approximately $250,000. There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire that was determined to be caused by a water heater vent pipe having debris caused by recent winds on the vent pipe.
