RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A 38-year-old Riverside man who was released from prison for an unrelated offense on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) was arrested today for murder.
Authorities responded to a report that a male subject was bleeding on the ground at Shamel Park, located at 3650 Arlington Avenue in the City of Riverside just before 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 19, 2019. When Riverside Fire Department Paramedics arrived they found Brian Byrd, 51, of Riverside, suffering from a stab wound. Paramedics attempted to save his life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation at the park, leading to the stabbing.
Detectives with the Robbery – Homicide Unit, along with Specialists from the Forensics Unit, assumed the investigation. They were assisted by the Riverside County Sheriff – Coroner’s Office and Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Through further investigation, the suspect was identified as Terrence Hawkins. On Thursday, February 21, 2019, the suspect was located in the 4000 block of Vine Street in Riverside. He was transported to the police station for questioning and was subsequently arrested and booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for murder and violation of PRCS.
