SAN BERNARDINO – A 55-year-old San Bernardino man led San Bernardino County Sheriff deputies from the Central Station on a reckless pursuit through the San Bernardino area on Sunday evening.
At around 4:00 p.m. the deputy attempted to stop Larry Franklin for a vehicle code violation near North Lugo Avenue and Bryant Street. Franklin continued on in a manner showing no regard for the lights and sirens or for public safety. Franklin ran stop signs and nearly collided with other vehicles, Sheriff’s officials said.
Franklin stopped the vehicle and fled on foot into the Rudy Hernandez Community Park leaving the vehicle in drive. The vehicle rolled into the occupied park causing yet another risk to public safety. As Franklin ran he threw a stolen gun onto the roof of the park community center.
The deputy gained custody of suspect Franklin, who was booked into the Central Detention Center for Felony Evading, Carrying a Concealed Firearm, Carrying a Loaded Firearm in Public and Previously Convicted Felon in Possession of a Loaded Firearm.
