Fontana, Calif. – Two people were injured as an assailant who was armed with a knife ran through Fontana Streets on Monday.
At around 4:54 p.m Fontana Police officers responded to the area of Citrus and Fontana Avenues for the report of a man running in the intersection with a knife. Officers arrived to the location within minutes and detained Leonard Escobedo, 27, of San Bernardino. Officers learned through investigation that Escobedo attempted to rob two separate victims at knifepoint; a 22-year-old and a 17-year-old. The adult victim was not injured, but the juvenile victim sustained a minor wound to his left shoulder. The juvenile victim was treated at the scene by medics.
Escobedo was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of attempted robbery and willful injury to a child. He was later booked at the West Valley Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear at the Rancho Cucamonga Superior Court on Wednesday morning.
