SAN JOSE – A San Jose Police Officer died while on duty on Tuesday afternoon San Jose Police Department officials said. After serving 11 years as a Police Officer, Officer Michael Katherman died in an on-duty traffic collision while on his Police motorcycle.
Through investigation, it was determined that Officer Katherman was riding his motorcycle on 10th Street when the male driver of a southbound traveling silver minivan was on North 10th Street attempted to make a left turn onto Horning Street causing the vehicles to collide.
Both the driver of the minivan and a witness stopped to assist, the witness used the officer’s police radio to call for assistance. Police from the San Jose Station and paramedics quickly arrived and Officer Katherman was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
