APPLE VALLEY, Calif. – Authorities are searching the Victorville landfill for the body of 6-year-old Duke Flores who was reported missing by family last week.
The family, after requesting a welfare check on the boy, reported Duke missing on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at 10:00 p.m. The grandmother said that she had not seen or heard from the child in nearly two weeks and when she called her daughter would say he was sleeping. Sheriff’s officials on Friday afternoon told a 24/7 Headline News reporter that the detectives were attempting to determine the timeline as far as Duke going missing.
Duke’s mother, Jackee Raquel Contreras, 29, of Apple Valley, was arrested shortly after deputies arrived at the home to check on Duke. She was arrested for child cruelty originally but later was also booked for murder. The family of the small boy said that Duke has autism. Jennifer Rachel Contreras, 29, Jackee’s twin sister who lives in the same home located at 22000 Cherokee Avenue in the Town of Apple Valley. She was booked for murder and accessory. Both are scheduled to appear in court today according to court records.
“Following investigative leads, detectives believe that Duke was placed in a dumpster,” Sheriff officials said Monday morning. As a result, the search has shifted to the Victorville landfill to look for the body of Duke. Homicide Detectives, Sheriff’s department volunteers, and landfill personnel are actively searching. Detectives are now working with personnel at the landfill in hopes of recovering his body.
