ADELANTO – Although the City of Adelanto approved a legal marijuana cultivation businesses within the industrial areas of the city two illegal operations have been located within the last week city officials said.
“Adelanto is dealing with medical marijuana cultivation on a legal basis and will not tolerate illegal operations in the city,” said Adelanto Mayor, Richard Kerr. “We are devoted to the High Desert and we want to be sure that we’re doing this [marijuana cultivation] the right way.”
The first bust was made in the Weaver Shopping Center, a small strip mall on the 11900 block of Cactus Road last Thursday. The second location was located on Tuesday after the Adelanto Community Safety officers served an inspection warrant at an industrial building in the 17100 block of Raccoon Avenue.
Several hundred plants were located as well as several pounds of dry product in the large warehouse. In the past, officers made attempts to contact those in possession of the property due to the business operating inside being an unregistered business.
A warrant was obtained and entry was made finding several hundred marijuana plants and related equipment. “Well, now I know why no one ever called our office back,” said Steven Peltier, Community Safety Manager. Inside the warehouse officers also found an elaborate security system but no occupants.
“Considering the large number of plants at the site I was surprised at how little odor there was,” said Peltier. San Bernardino County Sheriff Narcotics Enforcement Team were called to the location and took possession of the cannabis.
