GARDENA, Calif. – An 11-year-old child was struck by a drunk driver near Mas Fakai Park in the City of Gardena.
At around 8:00 p.m., on Friday, February 15, 2019, Gardena Police responded to the report of a traffic collision. When they arrived they learned that the small girl had been struck by a large SUV as she ran across the street towards the park. The girl was lying in the middle of the street unresponsive with significant injuries. The scene was secured and they began life-saving measures. With the help of emergency medical personnel, the girl regained consciousness and was transported to a trauma center for treatment of her injuries.
The driver of the SUV remained at the scene and was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. The 11-year-old girl required surgery but is expected to make a full recovery.
