VICTORVILLE, Ca. – A 17-year-old male was arrested after an altercation led to a shooting on Thursday afternoon.
Victorville Station officials said that at around 12:06 p.m. deputies were dispatched to Victor Valley High School for the report of shots fired. When they arrived less than five minutes later they made contact with school officials, who they worked with to secure the school grounds and locate any victims and/or suspects.
Through investigation it was determined that several males, some students, were involved in a verbal altercation in the school parking lot. The male subjects left through the back gates and entered Fresno Street where they continued arguing, leading to a physical altercation. While fighting, the 17-year-old male suspect pulled out a gun and began firing toward the other three subjects. An 18-year-old male subject, who is a Victor Valley High School student was shot in the foot and the suspect fled the location.
The 18-year-old student was treated at the scene and was transported to the hospital for further treatment. He was released and is expected to recover. A 16-year-old Victor Valley High School student was also injured as a result of the physical altercation and was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
“While multiple deputies conducted a complete sweep of the school campus to ensure the safety of all students and staff, a large number of deputies including Victorville Police Department’s Gang Team began gathering information to determine the identity of the suspect and his whereabouts,” said Victorville Sheriff’s Department Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez.
The 17-year-old suspect was located at a home in the 15700 block of Inyo Street and he was taken into custody without incident. He was arrested and booked into the San Bernardino County Juvenile Detention Center for attempted murder, threatening crime with intent to terrorize, minor in possession of a concealed weapon, and discharging a firearm in a school zone.
