Tens of thousands of Palestinians were cut off their water supply in Israel’s West Bank during the Ramadan, which began on June 5th Al Jazeera news said.
During 95 degree temperatures Mekorot, the water supplier siphoned off the water supply to Palestinian villages and cities. Some areas have reported limited water supply while others have been without water for over 40 days.
Palestinians use a significantly lower amount of water compared to Israelis, who reportedly use around 5 times more. The quality of the water that does reach the Gaza strip is also of lower quality than the water provided to the Israelis.
Families are reported to be living on only a little over 2.5 gallons per person per day and are depending on water trucks or springs to supply their water. Some areas have reported limited water supply
The United Nations said that 2 gallons is the minimum requirement for dependent on weather and other conditions.
Water limitations have been occurring in the West Bank and Gaza Strip for nearly 50 years. The water rations have been taking place in these Palestinian occupied territories since they have been occupied by Israeli forces.
