VICTORVILLE – The Victorville American Little League, who provides team sports including T-Ball, softball, and baseball to approximately 400 youth in the community was victimized recently.
On Thursday, June 8, 2017, league staff noticed that there was an attempted theft to one of the containers by a field at Sunset Ridge Park. Days later, on the morning of Saturday, June 10, 2017, the league staff went back to find that the entire container with all of its contents was gone. “This is actually the second time this year that a container with equipment was stolen, and the third time in the past 3 years,” said league information officer Eddie Ramos.
The stolen container carried field equipment which is essential for games held at that park. According to Ramos, the metal container held a field chalker, a set of three bases with stands, a lining rope device used to accurately mark the field, two heavy duty chains, and two bags of chalk. The approximate replacement value, which would include a more secure storage container, would be around $2500.
The staff is asking for financial help from the community to replace the stolen equipment and also to help them to prevent the same thing from happening next season. The players are set to return to play for the fall season is set to begin at the end of September and spring season in April. The Victorville American Little League has set up a donation page for anyone who would like to contribute to help in this effort to replace the equipment.
