APPLE VALLEY – Three Apple Valley men are behind bars after forcing their way into an occupied Apple Valley home on Thursday authorities said.
On Thursday morning deputies from the Apple Valley Station were dispatched to a home in the 14000 block of Navajo Road for the report of a residential robbery. The victim said that the three men forced their way into his home and left in the victim’s vehicle with several rifles and ammunition. The victim also indicated that one of the suspects may have been left behind inside the home.
The victim was able to get out of the home and call deputies who responded to the home. Steven Baird, 39, of Apple Valley, was located inside the home and was detained. Deputies were able to locate the stolen vehicle in the 12000 block of Algonquin, occupied by two subjects. They conducted a felony traffic stop and made contact with suspect Jonathan Canum, 20, and Rahif Sanam, 24, both from Apple Valley. Several rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition were found in their possession.
The weapons were identified as those stolen during the robbery and were recovered by the deputies. Baird, Canum, and Sanam were all positively identified by the victim and were arrested. All were found to be gang members and Baird was also found to be on probation. They were booked into the High Desert Detention Center for residential robbery, criminal threats, and gang enhancements. Bail was set at $200,000 for each of the suspects. All weapons were taken as evidence.
