EL CENTRO – Three sex offenders were arrested over the weekend by border patrol agents after entering California.
The arrests were made by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents. The first suspect, Edgar Giovanni Garcia-Rodriguez, a 19-year-old Mexican national was arrested 25 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry after illegally entering the U.S. Customs Border Patrol (CBP) officials said that Garcia-Rodriguez was arrested by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under the age of 14 on March 28, 2014. He was found to have an active warrant for that offence.
Ricard Torrez-Alvarez, a 39-year-old Mexican national, and also a sex offender was arrested 12 miles east of the Calexico Port of Entry. Torrez-Alvarez was convicted in California on July 31, 2016 for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child for which he received one-year prison time and a fine.
The third suspect was arrested near Bombay Beach by Indio station CBP agents on Friday, September 7, 2018. Odilfido Guerra-Morales, a 55-year-old Honduran national, is a previously deported sex offender convicted in California on December 22, 2015, for Lewd and Lascivious Acts with a child under the age of 14. Guerra-Morales was sentenced to 3 years in prison for that crime.
“These arrests are a testament to the vital role that the men and women of the El Centro Sector play in safeguarding our nation’s borders,” said Chief Patrol Agent Gloria I. Chavez. El Centro Sector has arrested 36 sex offenders in fiscal year 2018.
