HESPERIA – A Hesperia man was arrested after a traffic stop led to the finding of drugs, and a loaded firearm in his vehicle. On Saturday, August 19, 2017, at 11:36 a.m. a Hesperia Station deputy noticed a Chevrolet Malibu that failed to stop at a posted stop sign in the area of Third Avenue and Cashew Street. The deputy stopped the vehicle and made contact with the driver, James Mcgilberry, 40, who according to authorities appeared anxious and was uncooperative with the deputy.
The deputy called for backup and when they arrived Mcgilberry began cooperating and showed both hands as he exited the vehicle. Mcgilberry was detained without incident. The deputies learned that Mcgilberry was a convicted felon and conducted a search of his vehicle. Inside they located a handgun and illegal drugs by the driver’s seat. A search warrant was authored for Mcgilberry’s home where a large amount of cash, several different kinds of controlled substances and another loaded firearm were located.
Mcgilberry was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for transportation of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of controlled substances while armed, and a convicted felon with a loaded firearm. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Anyone who suspects drug activity is urged to contact their local Police Department.
