APPLE VALLEY – Two suspects, one on Post Release Community Supervision and the other on parole were arrested for commercial burglary and evading after leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit in the Town of Apple Valley.
On Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at around 9:48 p.m. deputies from the Apple Valley Station responded to the Spirit River Cafe located in the 16000 block of Apple Valley Road for the report of an activated burglar alarm. When they arrived they found a black Chevrolet Tahoe in the parking lot. The vehicle was occupied by two male subjects. The deputy attempted to make contact with the suspects, but the driver, later identified as Matthew Forsberg, 36, of Victorville, sped off through the parking lot and onto Apple Valley Road. He continued at speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour. When he reached Falchion Road around 6 minutes into the pursuit, he reached Falchion Road. Forsberg drove into the open desert toward the rock quarry where he abandoned the vehicle.
Deputies approached the suspect vehicle, which was unoccupied when located. Aron Wood, 33, of Hesperia, left his Department of Corrections identification card inside the vehicle. Wood was located by sheriff’s aviation hiding in a bush where he was taken into custody. Forsberg was not immediately located but since the vehicle belonged to his wife and he had a criminal history, a Hesperia station deputy, along with State Parole agents attempted to make contact with Forsberg at a Hesperia home. Forsberg ran but was taken into custody in the 7400 block of Farmdale Avenue in the City of Hesperia.
Inside the vehicle, which was registered to Forsberg’s wife, deputies were able to find a sledgehammer with a yellow handle that linked the suspects to a burglary of the Hair Emporium in the City of Victorville that occurred just one hour earlier.
Forsberg was on parole for assault with a deadly weapon and had an extensive criminal history. He is also listed by the State of California as a “career criminal for possession of a stolen vehicle. Forsberg is charged with Burglary, Felony Evading, and is also being held on a parole violation. He is currently in custody at the High Desert Detention Center and as is being held without bail.
Wood is currently on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS) for Health and Safety Code Possession for Sales. He began his supervision term on November 26, 2017. He is also on probation for Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Wood is charged with burglary, possession of Burglary Tools and is being held on a PRCS violation. He is currently in custody at the High Desert Detention Center and is being held without bail.
