VICTORVILLE – While thousands were forced to evacuate their homes, two suspects were arrested after using the disaster to their advantage. On Monday, August 22, 2016, deputies who were in charge of the protection of those evacuated to the San Bernardino County Fairgrounds during the Blue Cut fire noticed some discrepancies in information when reviewing documents.
They continued to look into the matter, to find that two suspects, Kamariyae Melton, 21 and Kennette Brock, 20 signed into the emergency evacuation center using an invalid address. Melton and Brock falsified documents saying they were evacuated and could not return home.
Melton and Brock were arrested and booked into the High Desert Detention Center for conspiracy to commit burglary. Melton also faces perjury charges . Per inmate records, Melton was released on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, and currently, has no court dates scheduled. Brock, who also has a no bail warrant for an unrelated assault charge out of Los Angeles County, is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
