Two Arrrested for Stealing a Cell Phone at Gunpoint

HESPERIA – Two suspects were arrested for an armed robbery in the 10000 block of Locust Street in Hesperia Wednesday morning. At around 10:58 a.m. deputies from the Hesperia station responded to the report that a cell phone had just been stolen from the victim, who was passing out flyers in the area.

The suspects, later identified as 23-year-old Hector Deloa of Hesperia and 23-year-old Carlos Magana, of Compton, pulled up to the victim and the passenger got out of the car. He asked to use the victim’s phone and the victim handed him the phone. The suspect, then pulled out a gun, got back into the vehicle and left with the victim’s phone. Deputies did an area check and was able to locate a vehicle with a matching description near Main and Maple.

Deputies conducted a stop of the vehicle and both Deloa and Magana were detained without incident. A gun was located in the possession of the suspects, but it was determined to be a bb gun. The suspects were positively identified. Deloa was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for armed robbery, and accessory to robbery. Magana was booked into jail for armed robbery.

There were no injuries reported as a result of the incident. The Hesperia Police station credit the victim for getting a good description of the vehicle and suspect. Also, handing over the phone helped keep him from getting hurt.
