CATHEDRAL CITY – Two California Highway Patrol officers and two others were injured as a result of a traffic collision on Sunday morning. At around 12:50 a.m the CHP vehicle was driving the patrol vehicle westbound on Ramon Road in Cathedral City, attempting to catch up to a SUV that was speeding in the area. As the patrol vehicle approached the red light at the intersection of San Luis Rey Drive.
Jose Burgos, 32, from Coachella, was attempting to make a left turn from southbound San Luis Rey Drive to eastbound Ramon Road in a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500. The patrol vehicle entered the intersection striking the left rear of the Dodge causing the patrol vehicle to overturn. The two officers in the CHP vehicle sustained moderate injuries, Burgos sustained major injuries, and his passenger, a 29-year-old Indio man sustained minor injuries. All of the injured were transported Desert Regional Medical Center.
The collision remains under investigation. All parties were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Drugs and/or alcohol were not a factor in the collision. The area was shut down temporarily during the investigation.
