CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. – The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and the Riverside District Attorney’s office is investigating an officer-involved shooting that killed two on Sunday.
At around 4:42 p.m. an officer from the Cathedral City Police Department responded to the area of Date Palm Drive and McCallum Way for the report of a disturbance by a Hispanic man and woman. When they arrived the male suspect shot the female victim. The suspect then turned the gun on the officer, striking the police vehicle several times. The officer returned fire, striking the suspect. The suspect was rushed to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
The woman was determined to be dead at the scene and the officer suffered only minor injuries. No further information is available, information will be updated as it is received.
