INDIO, Ca. – One juvenile and one young man died on Tuesday as a result of a vehicle versus a All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) collision.
At around 6:42 p.m. Jorge Gonzalez, 47, of Mecca, was driving a 2005 Ford F-150 was traveling westbound on 66th Avenue approaching the Grant Street intersection. A 19-year-old and 17-year-old, both from Mecca, were riding on a Polaris Predator 500 ATV, the 19-year-old driving and the 17-year-old seated behind him.
The two later identified as, Victor Barajas, 19, and Miguel Bautista, 17, were riding southbound on Grant Street, approaching the intersection with 66th Avenue. The driver of the ATV failed to stop at the stop sign and was struck by the front of the F150 collided with the side of the ATV.
The impact from the collision caused both of those on the ATV to be ejected. Neither were wearing protective gear and both died as a result of his injuries on scene. Jorge Gonzalez was uninjured as a result of the collision.
