HESPERIA – Two people were shot at the Walmart Store parking lot in the City of Hesperia on Wednesday morning. At around 7:00 a.m. Hesperia Station deputies responded to the parking lot of the Walmart located at 13401 Main Street in the City of Hesperia reference an officer-involved shooting.
The shooting occurred when deputies from the San Bernardino County Auto Theft Task Force (SANCATT), one California Highway Patrol (CHP) and the other Fontana Police Department, were in the parking lot investigating an incident and witnessed the unrelated theft of a vehicle. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Cindy Bachman said during a press conference that the suspects were “boxed in” and as the deputies approached the vehicle with three suspects inside, an officer-involved shooting occurred. Bachman also said that she has not received any information that there was any exchange of fire. It is unclear if the suspects were armed or the exact cause of the shooting.
Two male suspects, the driver of the vehicle and one of the passengers sustained gunshot wounds. The passenger was airlifted to a trauma center with non-life-threatening injuries and the second suspect was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. This shooting comes after an increase in crime in the Victor Valley late last week and early this week, including the Victorville In-N-Out armed robbery, the robbery of an elderly man at the Stater Bros. store, the shooting of a man in the Home Depot store parking lot in Victorville, the shooting at the Apple Valley Target, and the deputy-involved shooting in Apple Valley.
