YUCAIPA, Calif. – Two known gang members were identified as robbery suspects after a license plate number was taken and surveillance footage was reviewed/
On Sunday, June 23, 2019, Jesse Vasquez, 20, of Redlands and Jacob Rodriguez, 24, of Redlands, walked into a Stater Bros.located at 34460 Yucaipa Boulevard in the City of Yucaipa. Vasquez took four cases of Red Bull and walked out of the store without paying for them. An employee noticed and chased him, attempting to stop him and recover the stolen items.
Vasquez got into a vehicle and reversed backing up into the employee. Rodriguez fled on foot. A quick-thinking witness got the license plate number of the suspect vehicle and provided it to police. The suspects were identified by the surveillance video and were determined to be gang members from the Redlands area.
Vasquez and Rodriguez were located and arrested in Redlands on Monday, June 24, 2019.
Vasquez was booked on charges of Robbery, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Participation in a Criminal Street Gang. He is being held on $150,000 bail. Rodriguez was booked on charges of Conspiracy to Commit a Crime and Participation in a Criminal Street Gang. He was also charged with violating parole and is being held without bail.
The Stater Bros. employee struck by the suspect vehicle sustained only minor injuries.
