BAKERSFIELD, Ca. – Two men were found dead after a Bakersfield shooting on Monday night.
At around 8:05 p.m. officers with the Bakersfield Police Department were dispatched to the 4800 block of Cottonwood Road for the report of a male victim who had been shot. As officers responded, a vehicle was found leaving the scene northbound on Cottonwood Road. Officers stopped the vehicle in the 1900 block of E. Brundage Lane, where they found a victim (a 29-year-old Black man) was being rushed to the hospital.
The male victim was pronounced at the scene. Additional officers responded to the report of the shooting on Cottonwood Road. As officers arrived, a second deceased victim was located in the field east of the E. Pacheco and Cottonwood Road intersection. The victim was described as a 35-year-old Black man. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. “It appeared that a shooting incident occurred at the Cottonwood Road location and one victim was in the process of being transported to a local hospital,” Bakersfield Police said.
Police said that the incident does appear to be gang related. Another shooting incident occurred in the 3300 block Shellmacher Ave shortly after. At this time, there is no evidence linking the two described incidents.
