ORO GRANDE – Two Riverside Preparatory School students, a 15-year-old and a 13-year-old were arrested as a result of a weekend vandalization of the school.
Authorities are not sure if the incident occurred on Saturday and Sunday, but the teens, both from Victorville, went to the campus located at 19900 National Trails Highway in Oro Grande to vandalize the property. The boys sprayed painted buildings using black spray paint and super glued 30 classroom door handles causing around $20,000 in damage.
School officials said that the most serious damage was done to the doors. “The Oro Grande School District takes pride in our school grounds and we’re committed to ensuring its brought back to its proper state,” said Oro Grande School District Spokeswoman Charity Lindsey in a written statement. “We had a team of people, including our maintenance workers, superintendent, and some of our bus drivers, working together on the weekend to help paint over the graffiti. We know that providing a safe and attractive learning environment is important for our students and families and we’re willing to do whatever it takes to continue providing that.”
The investigation led to the teens, who were arrested and booked into the High Desert Juvenile Hall. School officials are continuing to work with authorities throughout the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this crime is urged to contact Deputy Katie Merrill at Victor Valley Sheriff’s Station, (760) 552-6800.
