VICTORVILLE, Ca. – Two Victorville men were arrested for the theft of a canopy used for IHOP restaurant’s outdoor dining, authorities said.
On Thursday, January 7, 2020, at around 3:20 a.m. Victorville deputies responded to the 14700 block of La Paz Drive for the report of two subjects who were apparently removing the canopy belonging to the restaurant. The restaurant had been using the canopy to provide outdoor dining throughout the COVID-19 indoor-dining restrictions. When they arrived they found Corey Greene, 50, and Daniel Chase, 32, both of Victorville in front of the restaurant inside a van
“The men had loaded the canopy and its frame into the van,” said Victorville Sheriff’s Spokeswoman, Mara Rodriguez in a written statement. “Through investigation, Hernandez [the deputy] discovered the restaurant had purchased the canopy and had not given Greene and Chase permission to take it.”
Both Green and Chase were arrested for Grand Theft and booked into jail. They are being held in lieu of $25,000 bail and are scheduled to appear in court on January 11, 2021.
Anyone with information about this investigation is asked to contact Deputy J. Hernandez at the Victorville Police Department at (760) 241-2911 or Sheriff’s Dispatch at (760) 956-5001.
