VICTORVILLE – Two teens are behind bars, and three other suspects remain at large after two were shot on Sunday.
At around 1:40 a.m. deputies from the Victorville station responded to the 16100 block of Tawney Ridge Lane for the report of a shooting, where a 16-year-old Black male was suffering from gunshot wounds. Through investigation, they learned that the male victim was walking in the area with a female friend when five Hispanic males approached them. The five exited the white sedan they were in and questioned the victim regarding possible gang affiliations while the others held the female.
The victim attempted to run but was shot multiple times. Before leaving, the suspects took the victim’s backpack and fled in the white sedan. The injured victim and the female went to the Tawney Ridge Lane location, where the victim collapsed in the front yard of a home. He was transported to a trauma center and remains in stable condition.
Just over a half hour later at 2:12 a.m. deputies responded to the area of Mojave Drive near West Trail for the report of a shooting with a 30-year-old Black male down. When they arrived they found the victim also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Deputies were able to determine that the same suspects were involved in both of the shootings. The victim was also transported to a trauma center and remains in stable condition.
Deputies identified a vehicle in the area of Mojave and La Paz Drives that matched the description of the suspect vehicle at around 5:30 a.m. A traffic stop was conducted and one 15-year-old and one 17-year-old male were taken into custody. The two suspects were positively identified as those involved in the shootings and both were booked into the juvenile detention center for attempted murder. The other suspects remain at large. Authorities believe that all of the five suspects have ties to local gangs and other criminal cases in Victorville and other areas in the High Desert.
