FALLBROOK, Calif. – A 19-year-old Victorville man died after his vehicle veered off the freeway and struck a tree, CHP officials said.
The man who has not yet been identified was driving on the northbound 15 freeway in the Fallbrook area when the crash occurred, just north of SR-76 on Sunday, July 21, 2019, at around 12:40 p.m. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) said that the male driver was in a 2000 Mercury Sable in the #1 (fast) lane, when he suddenly veered to the right and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway and stopped after the driver’s side of the vehicle struck a tree.
The CHP and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene and determined that the driver was dead at the scene. His 23-year-old passenger, a Victorville resident, was airlifted to the hospital with moderate injuries. The northbound I-15 was shut down temporarily but was reopened around an hour later after the injured passenger was airlifted from the scene.
The collision remains under investigation at this time.
