ADELANTO – A Victorville man was arrested after fleeing pursuing officers on Saturday night. Just before 11:15 p.m. deputies from the Victor Valley /Adelanto Station attempted to stop a motorcycle driving westbound on Air Expressway near CA-395 that was not displaying a rear plate.
The pursuit reached speeds of over 80 miles per hour and the rider, Joshua Smithhart, 28, violated several other California vehicle codes. The pursuit ended when Smithhart crashed his motorcycle in the intersection of Stevens Street and Vintage Road. “Joshua got up and began running northbound through the desert and was captured a short time later without further incident,” said Deputy Adam Cervantes.
Smithhart was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Felony Reckless Evading and outstanding misdemeanor warrants. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail and is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Wednesday afternoon.
