VICTORVILLE – A Victorville man is behind bars after attempting to rob a Victorville Walgreens Store on Thursday evening. At around 5:55 p.m. deputies from the Victorville station responded to the report of a robbery at the Walgreens store located at 13655 Bear Valley Road.

When they arrived, the employee told deputies that the suspect, later identified as Wayne Morris Tyson, 34, of Victorville, attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. An employee confronted the suspect, who then brandished a handgun causing the employee to fear for her life. Tyson then fled the location.

When confronted by the employee the suspect brandished a handgun, causing the employee to be in fear for their life. The suspect fled the store. The detective who responded to call saw the suspect near the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Amethyst. He attempted to make contact with him but he fled leading to a foot pursuit. The suspect dropped the handgun as he fled and the detective was able to get suspect Tyson onto the ground.

Tyson resisted and did not comply with commands given causing injuries to himself and to the detective’s hand. A deputy arrived to provide backup and took Tyson into custody. The handgun was later determined to be a BB gun. The detective was treated at the hospital and later released and the suspect was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
