EASTVALE, Calif. – A Victorville man was arrested for a strong-arm robbery at a Vons Grocery store, located in the City of Eastvale.
On Thursday, June 13, 2019, at around 5:30 p.m., deputies from the Eastvale station responded to the report of a strong-arm robbery at the Vons Grocery Store, located in the 6100 block of Hamner Avenue. Authorities said that Verdell Simon, 30, of Victorville, was observed by Vons security taking items and placing them inside his bag. The security made contact with Simon and identified themselves. “Simon did not cooperate with security’s commands and he ran toward the store exit, bypassing the cashiers without paying,” Sheriff officials said.
The security officer stopped him outside and told him that he needed to return to the store to pay for the items in his possession. The security officer reached for the stolen items in an attempt to gain possession of them, but Simon pulled back. The two began tugging back and forth until Simon pushed the security loss prevention officer, causing her to fall. He fled the scene toward an unknown location. During the investigation, deputies located a lanyard with Simon’s identification and a photo which was removed during the struggle with the loss prevention officer.
On Friday, June 14, 2019, deputies obtained Simon’s work address and responded to the Walmart Distribution Center located in the 4100 block of Hamner Avenue in the City of Eastvale. He was taken into custody and transported to the Robert Presley Detention Center for Robbery.
