STUDIO CITY – A Victorville man stole over $35,000 worth of items from a Studio City Home while posing as a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (DWP) employee on Monday authorities said.
Robert Holley, 20, allegedly went to the home in the 3700 block of Multiview Drive at around 3:20 p.m. wearing a construction-type vest. He rang the “Ring” doorbell and the homeowner answered remotely. Holley told the homeowner that he was with DWP and needed to shut the water off for a short period of time. The homeowner explained that no one was home, but gave him the authorization to shut the water off.
A construction truck was nearby as the incident took place and the construction worker heard glass break and noticed Holley coming out of the home. He followed Holley for a short period of time, calling 9-1-1 and letting police know his direction of travel. Police located Holley in a nearby gym attempting to pass himself off as a member who had just finished working out. Witnesses guided police toward items, including a bag of Louis Vuitton wallets discarded prior to their contact with Holley. Witnesses said that Holley had a prescription bottle, a watch, and cash in his possession.
Authorities have linked Holley to two other burglaries the same day in Woodland Hills both only hours before. Holley was arrested for residential burglary. Homeowners are urged to ask anyone coming to the door posing as a public utility worker, city worker, or any other visitor claiming to be from a business to provide valid identification. If still uncertain about the identity of the worker you should call the company to verify that they were sent to your home.
