VICTORVILLE – A 22-year-old Victorville woman is behind bars for robbery after attempting to steal merchandise at Vallarta Supermarket on Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, April 17, 2018, at around 3:15 p.m. deputies from the Victorville station were dispatched to the Vallarta Supermarket located at 12351 Mariposa Road in the City of Victorville for the report of a strong-arm robbery that had just occurred. When they arrived they learned that Vannessa Gonzales attempted to walk out of the store without paying for merchandise.
The store’s loss prevention officer attempted to make contact with Gonzales. “She attempted to avoid detention by the loss prevention officer by pulling away from him and headbutting him,” said Victorville Sheriff’s Station Spokeswoman Mara Rodriguez. Deputies arrested Gonzales and booked her into the High Desert Detention Center for Robbery. She is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
According to San Bernardino County Court records, Gonzales has had several run-ins with the law between 2014 to the current time. Her most recent conviction was a February 2015 burglary conviction, which was a plea bargain after she was charged with one felony count each of Robbery, Battery with Serious Bodily Injury, Assault by Means of Force Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury, and Burglary. Gonzales was eventually released from custody on Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS), which she violated multiple times following her release, including a Driving Under the Influence conviction in May 2017.
Gonzales is scheduled to appear at the Victorville Superior Court on Thursday, April 19, 2018.
