TEMECULA, Calif. – The woman killed in an apparent DUI traffic collision on the 15 freeway in Temecula has been identified as 44-year-old Janet Genao of Murrieta.
On Monday, June 4, 2019, at around 7:23 a.m., near Rancho California Road, a driver of a Chevy truck, identified as Javier Caldera, 25, of Auburn, Wa. sped past numerous vehicles, rear-ending a late-model white Chevy Tahoe sending it into the center divider. The truck continued on into slowed traffic, slamming into the back of a Nissan Maxima. The force caused a chain reaction sending a sedan to the right shoulder and another vehicle off the side of the freeway and into a parking structure.
The Chevy came to a stop against the center divider and the driver attempted to leave the scene of the collision until he collapsed onto a grassy area on the northbound side of the freeway. The Nissan Maxima was unidentifiable as a result of the collision. The sole occupant in the vehicle, Janet Genao was pronounced deceased at 7:48 a.m.
Four others were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries; two serious and two minor to moderate. Meanwhile, a community is mourning not one, but two deaths in resulting from intoxicated drivers in less than a week.
Caldera was involved in a run-in with the law in November 2018, when he was involved in a police pursuit from Thurston County to Centralia. He was sentenced to 2 months in jail. He was released from jail in January 2019.
