LOS ANGELES – A 37-year-old Colorado woman who claimed that she had breast cancer and scammed donors out of over $100,000 was sentenced and ordered to repay all of the funds.
Lacy Johnson pleaded no contest on January 23, 2017, to felony grand theft and was sentenced on Thursday, May 18, 2017, to 180 days in county jail. She also will be ordered to serve five years of formal probation and to do 30 days of community labor District Attorney officials said.
Between 2010 and 2013, Johnson received more than $100,000 from donors claiming that she needed the money in order to get breast cancer treatment. Johnson was learned to not have breast cancer and district attorney’s officials believe that more victims may have been scammed.
