YUCAIPA – A 22-year-old man was arrested for arranging to meet a decoy who was posing as a 13-year-old boy for sex authorities said.
Detectives from the Yucaipa Police Department recently set out to nab those seeking sex with minors over social media. During the operation, a decoy posing as a 13-year-old boy was contacted by 22-year-old Yucaipa resident, Armando Vergara who was also using the same site. As the two communicated online, the decoy shared that he was 13-years-old. Vergara sent nude photos of himself to the underaged decoy and subsequently made arrangements to meet with him at a prearranged location where he and the decoy could partake in sexual acts.
On Wednesday, September 20, 2017, Vergara was contacted and interviewed by police and was arrested following the interview. He was booked into the Central Detention Center for Sending Harmful Matter to a Minor and Arranging to Meet a Minor for Sexual Acts. He is being held in lieu of $50,000 bail. Vergara was released on bail early Thursday morning. Detectives do not believe this was Vergara’s first contact or planned meeting with a teen boy for sex acts.
Detectives are releasing the booking photo of Vergara and ask anyone who has been victimized by Vergara to contact the Yucaipa Police Department Detective Bureau at (909) 918-2305. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the detectives at the Yucaipa Police Department.
