Active Shooter Lockdown at Joint Base Andrews Air Force Base Lifted

MARYLAND – A lockdown at the Joint Base Andrews, Air Force base was caused by a misidentification of the security forces emergency service team, JBA officials said. Just after 9:00 a.m. (EST) the Joint Base Andrews, Air Force base placed on a lockdown due to an “active shooter” causing panic to those in the area as well as many throughout the United States.

The incident was reported to be at the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility, the on-base hospital named after Malcolm C. Grow, the U.S. Air Forces very first Surgeon General. The base was scheduled to have an on-base no-notice active shooter exercise this morning.

The announcement citing an active shooter left many who were aware of this training, that was set to be on a different area of the base bewildered. By 10:40 a.m. the threat was cleared but the Malcolm Grow Medical Facility remained on a slight alert pending further investigation.

“Fortunately, this was not a life-threatening situation,” said Col. Brad Hoagland, 11th Wing and Joint Base Andrews commander. “We take all threats seriously and reacted to ensure the security of  those on the base.’
