EL MONTE – A 50-year-old convicted felon was in court for an arraignment hearing on Wednesday for allegedly leading police on a pursuit in El Monte on July 2nd.
El Monte resident, George Vaitoelau was charged with four felonies including pursuing peace officer’s motor vehicle while driving recklessly, resisting an executive officer, possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of ammunition.
LA District Attorney officials said that on July 2nd Olotoa was riding a motorcycle when a police officer from the El Monte station attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Mr. Olotoa did not stop leading to a pursuit.
The pursuit stopped at one point during which time Olotoa and the officer “scuffled” before he got back on his motorcycle to continue the pursuit. Olotoa was eventually forced to stop after colliding into a vehicle and being ejected from his motorcycle.
According to the prosecutor, during his arrest a loaded firearm was located in Olotoa’s backpack. Olotoa is scheduled to return to the El Monte Superior Court on July 21st. If convicted as charged, he will face up to 25 years to life in prison.
