VICTORVILLE – A man hopped into his vehicle and drove in the direction of Dominican Hospital in Santa Cruz, California on Tuesday morning just after making threats targeting those at the hospital.
Judson John Swallow, 63, of Albuquerque, New Mexico made the 911 call at around 9:50 a.m. When calling, Swallow told the 911 operator that he wanted to shoot people, including police officers at the hospital. Swallow then got into his vehicle and drove west from New Mexico just after hanging up the phone authorities said. The motive Swallow said was to retaliate for the treatment of a family member by the hospital staff. Authorities became aware that Swallow was possibly en route to the hospital which led to a hour long lockdown of the hospital.
Swallow who has an extensive record and multiple warrants in Santa Cruz County drove through Arizona and was in Victorville when he was stopped in the 12100 block of Mall Boulevard by a Victorville deputy at around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017. Swallow was taken into custody and after a thorough vehicle search he was found to have no weapon in his possession.
Swallow was booked into the High Desert Detention Center for Criminal Threats and was subsequently transferred to Santa Cruz at 12:38 p.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2017.
