PITTSBURG, PA. – A Pittsburg mother was found responsible for her 18-month-old daughter’s death, but not guilty of murder.
In April 2018, authorities and medical personnel responded to the apartment Jhenia Pratt, 23, shared with her toddler daughter when she reported that Charlette Napper-Talley was not breathing. She was rushed to Children’s Hospital where she died. It was later determined that the toddler was given a sippy cup filled with fentanyl. Prosecutors said that Pratt gave her daughter the fentanyl in order to subdue the toddler enough so that she could relax and smoke marijuana. The defense denied the prosecution’s account of the events by saying that Pratt was unaware of the fentanyl being in the child’s cup.
On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, a jury found Jhenia Pratt, 23, guilty of involuntary manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child. The jury found that she was not guilty of murder charges as a result of her daughter’s death as a result of ingesting fentanyl. She will be sentenced at a later date.
