EAU CLAIRE, WI. – A mother, son, and their dog, “Bo” cause chaos in a Wisconsin Walmart store.
On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, at around 8:30 p.m. officers from the Eau Claire Police Department responded to Walmart for the report of a theft in progress. The reporting party stated that a woman and her unleashed dog were shoplifting items from inside the store. Officers arrived to find 46-year-old Lisa Smith screaming as she was attempting to catch “Bo”, her dog. Through investigation, they learned that her son, 25-year-old Benny Vann was also creating a disturbance in the store.
Further investigation revealed that Smith went into the store with Bo, who greeted customers throughout the store as Smith began pulling apart store displays officials said. As she pulled the displays, she placed them into her cart. “She was asked to leave by staff and left the store to perform karate moves in the parking lot,” Eau Claire Police Department officials said in a news release. “In the meantime, Bo got a box of Jiffy Cornbread Muffin Mix and tried to leave the store. Smith was arrested and fought with Officers — she also attempted to kick out a window on the squad car.”
Just when officers thought that the situation was under control, Vann was in the back of the store taking all of his clothing off. Naked Vann walked from the back of the store to the men’s section to get new clothing from the racks. He then attempted to leave without paying for the items. Officers made contact with Vann, who refused to stop and attempted to run the officer over with his scooter. The officers were able to stop the scooter and arrest Vann.
Smith was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, Resisting Arrest, and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping. Vann was arrested for Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, Disorderly Conduct and Retail Theft. Bo was caught by Officers in the store and brought to the Humane Association. “The dog was not charged – we issued him a warning for the theft,” police officials said.
