HICKSVILLE, NY. – A Hicksville, New York man was arrested for impersonating a police officer on Friday, police said.
At around 11:00 a.m., Valiery Portlock, 25, was traveling northbound on Hicksville Road near Roosevelt Avenue in a black Nissan Sentra when he activated his air horn and emergency lights to pull a van over. Unbeknownst to Portlock, the van was occupied by Nassau County Electronics Squad detectives.
The detectives exited the van and identified themselves as they approached Portlock’s vehicle. Portlock fled the scene, swerved into oncoming traffic and refused to stop his vehicle. He continued at a high rate of speed onto the Long Island Expressway. Nassau County Highway Patrol was notified and quickly spotted Portlock. They initiated a traffic stop and Portlock was placed under arrest.
He was charged with 1st-degree Criminal Impersonation, 2nd-Degree Reckless Endangerment, and Unlawful Fleeing from a Police Officer, as well as other traffic violations.
