CHICAGO, IL. – A three-year-old boy was killed after apparently playing with a handgun in his Illinois home on Sunday.
The incident occurred in the afternoon in the 9600 block of S. Escanba. The adult family members of the small child were in another room when they heard a gunshot. When they ran in to see where the gunshot came from, they located Mikah Davis with a gunshot wound to his face. The family rushed the gravely injured child to a local hospital where he died as a result of his injuries.
It is unclear at this time how the child go to the gun, or if the gun was easily accessible to him. Children and Family Services responded to the home to assist with the investigation, police said. “We extend our deepest condolences as detectives continue to investigate. DCFS has also been called in to assist,” Chicago Police officials said. No arrests have been made as of Monday afternoon.
