A Florida woman was arrested last week for putting her severely malnourished dog into the trunk of her car after the animal shelter refused to accept him.
On Thursday, August 22, 2019, the woman, later identified as Sara Perry went to the Brevard Humane Society to drop off her family dog. The shelter was unable to accept the dog because they were full to capacity at the time. Perry was very upset, according to the shelter’s staff. She then asked if they could euthanize him, and they said they do not euthanize pets only because they are not wanted.
Following the conversation with the humane society staff, Perry was caught on camera placing her dog in the hot trunk of her vehicle before slamming it closed and driving away from the Brevard Humane Society. An employee took a photo of her license plate and called authorities to report the incident. The video and photos were reviewed by authorities and it was learned that the dog was also transported to the shelter inside the trunk of her vehicle.
Appalled by the sight of Perry’s actions, Sheriff Wayne Ivey took her into custody personally and booked her into jail. She will face Felony animal abuse charges. The dog was taken to the Brevard County Animal Care Center and was found to be in poor health and was emaciated.
