VESTAVIA HILLS, AL. – It was meant to be an afternoon of family fun but it became a terrifying event for the patrons at a Vestavia Hills, Alabama Chuck E. Cheese.
On Saturday, April 13, 2019, at around 2:50 p.m., a frantic call went in to 911 operators reporting a shooting with multiple victims. Police and Fire officials responded to the restaurant at 500 Old Town Road in Vestavia Hills. When they arrived the found 22-year-old Timothy Roshun Smith, of Birmingham, near his vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound to his chest. His young daugher was also injured with a non-life-threatening wound to her leg authorities said.
Both were rushed to the hospital, on Monday, April 15, 2019, Timothy Roshun Smith died as a result of his injury. Through investigation it was determined that the young father was changing his daughter’s diaper in the vehicle when he reached into the backpack-style diaper bag to get the necessary items. A gun that was inside the diaper bag went off and struck him and his daughter.
