COSTA MESA, Calif. – A former club basketball coach was arrested for unlawful sex with at least for juvenile female victims.
Irvine Police officials said that the girls were between the ages of 11 and 14-years-old when the sexual incidents occurred in 2009. Carlos Juarez, 44, of Costa Mesa, was arrested outside of his home in the 1300 block of Adams Avenue on Thursday, April 11, 2019. Police said that Juarez met all of the victims, who are not known to each other, when they were in elementary school. It is believed that the sexual incidents did not occur until years after he first made contact with the victims.
Juarez met the girls while he was a basketball coach for an undisclosed club team. The Irvine Police Department, Costa Mesa Police Department, Tustin Police Department and OC Sheriff’s Department are involved in the cases related to the four victims. Costa Mesa police arrested Juarez on a $100,000 warrant obtained by the Irvine Police Department. He was subsequently transferred to Orange County Jail.
Investigators believe there are more victims in this case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective John Sanders at 949-724-7233 or jsanders@cityofirvine.org.
